“Movement, to be experienced, has to be “found” in the body, not put on like a dress or a coat. There is that in us which has moved from the very beginning. It is that which can liberate us.” – Mary Whitehouse, Pioneer of Authentic Movement
Authentic Movement is a subtle yet powerful therapeutic practice that allows individuals to explore the relationship between the creative, psychological and sacred dimensions of their experience through bodily expression. Developing kinesthetic awareness, interpersonal skills, empathy, and a sense of embodied presence are often natural outgrowths of the practice. The sensing world is awakened, perceptions clarified, and feelings affirmed – restoring a sense of authority to one’s own bodily-knowing.
Meeting in First United's labyrinth will provide a uniquely sacred, inspiring space for this practice.
What others say:
"Authentic movement has been an empowering experience, where I get in touch with my inner voice. It has allowed me to connect in a deeper way with my body, leaving behind thoughts, limiting beliefs and expectations.
"Merlyn holds a safe space where you can flow and your body can express freely. Attuning yourself with the group energy is magical for a self and group healing. Each experience feels like peeling several layers of heaviness that I've been carrying around. After every session, I leave the room feeling lighter and re-energized." - Laura Casillas
There is movement in the circle: loud; expressive; honest; desire - a want.
And... in this moment, a part of me shies - fear in my belly.
Something calls me, not sure I am hearing it, how it calls, what it calls, how to hear....?
It is palpable. It holds a truth. Can I reach....?
And... in this moment, I feel, even though it is hard for me to open and participate in the circle of movement, I also feel, simultaneously there is an opening up in the energy space for me to enter, and I am able to feel welcomed into the dynamic, a new part of myself blossoming......
I can explore this feeling: internal & connected (to the movers/others) vs. internal & hiding - a powerful analogy for my life. -- Loretta Luchau

Why horses? Bringing together the powerful forces of music, movement and horses will facilitate healing for all involved - humans and horses. Horses offer humans non-judgmental, immediate feedback and wisdom, inviting us to be fully present and honest. They help us bring our heart into coherence to enhance calm and well-being.

Circle Singing is a community singing and sounding practice, spontaneous and evolving — like a drum circle for voices.
Based on practices developed by Bobby McFerrin and his collaborators, Circle Singing is a supportive, judgment-free space to play with your voice. Leaders create songs in the moment — patterns, percussive sounds, rhythms, harmonies, melodies, recognizable words, or invented language — and teach the parts orally to the rest of the group. The parts layer together into completely original compositions, each song a unique creation, never sung before, never to be sung again.
It's a very organic, playful, community singing experience. All voices are welcome!

Roy Willey has brought his popular online offering brilliantly to life, live-looping voice and instruments to create a moving soundscape that transforms from start to finish.
Follow the journey with your voice and body. Sing, hum, chant, move, dance, or simply relax, breathe, and listen. Everything is improvised, so every journey is different.
Bring yoga mats, blankets, or chairs

Mon. Aug 9, 7-8:30 pm "Gong Bath by the Creek"
Founder of Creativity Alive, Merlyn Holmes has been yearning to bring her "sound beings" (three large Chinese Wind Gongs and a miscellany of other wood and metal instruments) to the creek's edge to join in play with the sounds of the water.
Allow the overtones and vibrations to move through your body, mind, and spirit. Feel free to sing, hum, chant, move, dance, nap, and dream -- importantly, allow yourself to dream. Or simply relax, breathe, and listen.
Receive a sound bath and then await what special guests may bring in collaboration, whether from nature or in human form.
Bring yoga mats, blankets, or chairs, enough padding to be comfortable on the cool, concrete floor.

NOTE: This one is a fundraiser for Vegetable Delivery for Joy
Merlyn's Gong Bath will serve as a fundraiser for Vietnam's current COVID crisis where many people are now going hungry and simply can not get enough food for themselves or their families, adding yet another dimension to the pandemic. 70% of the profits will help supply food for daily workers in the most heavily hit areas.
Vegetable Delivery for Joy has already distributed 185 tons of vegetables and is now aiming to give 10 - 20 tons of vegetables every day to daily wagers in Sai Gon until they get through this crisis.
Merlyn's new housemate Thi Hoang is from Vietnam. She is getting direct information from her family on the ground there as COVID has recently roared to its highest levels since the pandemic began. Let's do our bit.

Your generosity is soo appreciated. As you can well imagine, we've taken quite a hit this year and had to cancel all our classes, workshops, performances, events and festivals through the end of the year. While these few gatherings in the parks while the weather is good are designed to provide nourishment to all of us to help us sustain through the "pandemic winter," they also need to provide some kind of living for us / help put food on the table. To keep Creativity Alive afloat and able to continue offering things like these, we have our Mmmwhahsome musicians to pay, and the founder, dancer and creative spirit behind all these offerings, Merlyn Holmes to support. Consider what value these are to you during these times, what a treat they are, and please give accordingly - at each event OR at any time:
